The Outcome of Our Self-Surrender to God

Unhypocritical Love – The Outcome of Our Self-Surrender to God”

Romans 12:9-21

Pastor Aaron E. Lavender

These verses, if they are regarded and applied, would revolutionize the average Christian’s life. There are three basic thoughts in view here as we think about Unhypocritical Love – The Outcome of Our Self-Surrender to God.: What our actions, attitudes, and affections toward other Christians should be.

I.  What Our Actions Toward Other Christians Should Be: Romans 12:9-15

A.  Actions that make us a pleasure to be around and/or be with-

1.  Love without Hypocrisy (v.9a)

2. Be Devoted in Brotherly Love (v.10a)

3. Give Preference to Others (v.10b)

4. Be Diligent in Our Serving (v.11a)

5. Contribute to the Saints (v.13a)

6. Practice Hospitality (v.13b)

7. Speak Well of Others (v.14)

8. Rejoice and Mourn Suitably (v.15)

B.  Actions that equip us to be a blessing to others.

1. Hate and Hold on to the Right Things (v.9b, “Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good”)

2. Stay Excited about God (v.11b, “fervent in spirit”)

3. Serve the Lord (v.11c, “serving the Lord”)

4. Rejoice in Hope (v.12a, “Rejoice in hope”)

Let us not forget what the Lord has done for us!  Jesus Christ gives to each of us:

  • Living hope (1 Pet. 1:3, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead”)
