Jesus is speaking and He says, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (v.10). 34 times in the Gospel of John we have this little word “life.” It is the message of the Bible because the supreme need of man is for life. A person who has never been save is “dead in trespasses and in sins.” This is a solemn fact. You can be alive and yet spiritually dead. Jesus Christ offers every person “abundant life.”
Three wonderful truths will be explored: the enemies, the certainties, and the qualities of the life Christ offers:
I. The Enemies Of The Life Christ Offers: John 10:10a
A. They are DECEPTIVEin their motives (vv.1-3)
B. They are DEFECTIVE in their message (v.5)
C. They are DESTRUCTIVE in their motives (v.10)
II. The Certainties Of The Life Christ Offers: John 10:10b
A. Jesus is the Christ of HISTORY (v.10b, “I am come”)
B. Jesus is the Christ of CALVARY (v. 11)
C. Jesus is the Christ of VICTORY (vv.16-18)
III. The Qualities Of The Life Christ Offers: John 10:10c
A. It is an APPEALING life (“Life more abundantly”)
B. It is an ABOUNDING life (“Life more abundantly”)
C. It is an ABIDING life (v.28)
Jesus Christ stands at the door of your heart right now and says, “I am come that you might have life, and that you might have it more abundantly.” What do you do when I offer you a gift? Do you debate or argue with me? Do you ignore me? Of course not. You accept the gift and you say, “Thank you.” The Bible says that, “the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Rom. 6:23); and, “He who has the Son has eternal life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life” (1 John 5:12). QUESTION: Will you take the gift of life in Christ? Will you receive that gift right now?
