“Separated Living in This Sinful World”

2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1

Introduction:

The trait of separation was sorely lacking in Corinth. Of all the churches mentioned in the New Testament, the church in Corinth was undoubtedly the most worldly of all. If the church in Philippi was known for its compassion, and the church in Ephesus was known for its commitment, the church in Corinth was known for its carnality!

It was a worldly church dwelling in a wicked city. The city of Corinth was so vile, that to be called a “Corinthian” meant that you were a person of low moral standards. Sadly, the evil of that society had penetrated the church and things had gotten so bad in Corinth, that there was little distinction between them and the world around them.

Today, as the Lord gives liberty, I want to preach on this thought Separated Living in This Sinful World. Two truths will be explored: Our lives should be characterized by contrasts, and, Our lives should be regulated by specific commands:

I. Our Lives Should Be Characterized by Contrasts:

2 Cor. 6:14-16

A. There is to be a contrast in our WALK (v.14a)

B. There is to be a contrast in our WISDOM (v.14b)

C. There is to be a contrast in our WORSHIP (vv.15-16)

II. Our Lives Should Be Regulated by Specific Commands:

       2 Cor. 6:14-17

A. We are commanded to be SEGREGATED (v.14) People

B. We are commanded to be SEPARATED (v.17)Practices

III.  Our Lives Should Be Motivated by Convictions:

       2 Cor. 6:17-7:1

A. The conviction of unbroken fellowship with God (6:17-18)

1.  Unbroken fellowship with God allows us to enjoy His favor on our lives (v.17)

2.  Unbroken fellowship with God allows us to experience His Fathering of our lives (v.18)

 B. The conviction of consecrated living before God (7:1)

1. Our lives should be CLEAN (7:1a)

2.  Our lives should be CONSECRATED (7:1b)

CONCLUSION:

Are we really expected to remain separate in this sinful world? Yes, we are! Let us never be ashamed of the fact that Grace Baptist Church is out of step with this world! Let us never be ashamed of what we are, what we believe and of the convictions we hold sacred.
