“Humility – The Consequence of Our Self-Surrender to God”

Romans 12:3-8

 

Introduction:

Allow me to share three observations with you as we discuss:  Humility – The Consequence of Our Self-Surrender to God. These observations include: WE MUST -beware of pride in the church; know our place in the church; and, carry out our duties in the church.

I.  We Must Beware of PRIDE in the Church:  Rom. 12:3

A.  The danger we must all avoid (v.3a)

  1.  Self-deception –
  2. Self-depreciation –

B.  The decision we must all accept (v.3b)

  1. We are all saved by grace –
  2. We are all serving by grace –

II.  We Must Know Our PLACE in the Church:  Rom. 12:4-5

AComprehending the image portrayed (v.4)

B.  Comprehending our individuality (v.5a) 

C.  Comprehending our integration (v.5b)

III.  We Must Carry Out Our DUTIES in the Church:  Rom. 12:6-8

A.  Our call as members of Christ’s Body (v.6a)

B.   Our condition as members of Christ’s Body (vv.6b-8)

  1.  Spiritual gifts related to expounding God’s Word (vv.6b-8a)
  2. Spiritual gifts related to expanding God’s Work (v.8b)

 C.  Our caution as members of Christ’s Body (v.8b)

  1.   Simplicity – 
  2.   Diligence – 
  3.   Cheerfulness –

 CONCLUSION:

As we think about the Church, Body of Christ this Morning, I wonder how well we are filling out the places we have been called on to fill. As you listened today, did the Spirit of God touch your heart and say, “Right there is where you need work!“?
