“Every Man Stood In His Place”

Judges 7:15-22

We’ve chosen the theme “Honoring our Faithful Shepherd”.  On this occasion of his 31st year as our shepherd, because of Dr. Lavender’s longevity of faithfulness and expertise in leadership.  We chose his life verse  I Timothy 1:12 as the theme verse: “I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service.” But I think I like the KJV better . . .” And I thank Christ Jesus, our Lord, Who hath enabled me, in that He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry,”

We want to thank our Pastor for accepting the call to the Pastoral ministry and faithfully serving the Lord for the last 31 years at Grace Baptist Church.

How best can a local church say thank you to our Lord and to our Pastor for faithful service?  I want to suggest that we honor our Lord and please Him; and we best honor our Pastor and please him with obedience to the Word of God.

In the Book of this mornings considerations, Judges . . . in Judges 2:2 and 6:10, God says “But ye have not obeyed My voice”.

I.  Tell The Story: No Leadership Base

The Book of Judges tells us that after the death of Joshua (2:8) and the elders that outlived Joshua, there arose a generation that knew not the Lord, nor the works that He did for Israel. The children of Israel did evil in God’s sight and served other Gods. The Israelites would embrace the God’s of the freshly people around them and would soon find themselves enslaved to the people of those false gods.

B. Pleasing God:

Concluding Remarks:

For this Church. . . find your place and stay. For your home find the place of God’s calling (as a husband, wife, child, mother, or father) and stay.  Stand in your place! Don’t move!  Give no place for evil to prevail !!!  Be a Godly father; A godly mother; a faithful teacher; Deacon, Trustee, Committee head, Ministry leader, Choir member; Utilize your Spiritual gifts here!  No excuses!  Stand in the Gap where God has placed you, “and having done all”, stand in your place!!!

I just want to be greatly used of God;  To hear God say of me:  “Well done, well done, good & faithful servant”.  God will only say that of the servants who are in obedient service;  in the place of His direction.

I want it said of me  – He kept his focus

“One thing” — He sought first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness;  He pleased God!
