Sermon Series – MISSION POSSIBLE #5
“Christian Unity for The Sake of the Gospel”
This morning, I want to take this passage and talk to you on the subject: “Christian Unity for the Sake of the Gospel.” I want us to see that being one in the Lord is God’s will for His people and the church (Phil 1:27; 1 Cor. 1:10), and I want to show you how it is possible. That is a tall order, but this passage gives us the necessary details.
Three truths are contained in this passage: the source, requirements, and fulfillment of our unity as Christians.
I. The Source of Our Unity As Christians: Eph. 4:4-7
A. As Christians we share common ground (vv.4-6)
B. As Christians we share a common grace (v.7, “But to each one of us grace was given according 1. to the measure of Christ’s gift”).
II. The Requirements of Our Unity As Christians: Eph. 4:2-3
A. Christian unity requires that we exercise the right walk (v.2)
1. “Lowliness” –
2. “Meekness” –
3. “Longsuffering” –
4. “Forbearing in Love” –
B. Christian unity requires that we embrace the right work (v.3, “endeavoring to keep . . “)
III. The Fulfillment of Our Unity As Christians: Eph. 4:1
A. Christian unity leads to a balanced life (v.1a, “walk worthy”)
B. Christian unity leads to a blessed life (v.1b, “walk worthy of the calling with which you were called”)
It may be that you are here today and your feelings have been hurt by others in the church, or, you haven’t been as loving and forgiving toward others as the Lord wants you to be, or maybe you are here today and you need to make things right with some other church member. I guarantee you the devil won’t like it, but the Lord surely will! Ask God, “Dear God, what do I need to do today to preserve Christian unity in my local church”?
